Cape Breton Island is part of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada. Physically separated from the Nova Scotia peninsula by the Strait of Canso, it is connected to the mainland by the Canso Causeway.

The island is located northeast of the mainland with its coasts surrounded by The Gulf of St. Lawrence, Northumberland Strait, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Three popular attractions for tourists are whale watching, the Cabot Trail with its spectacular coastal vistas, and the Fortress of Louisbourg.
